Problems Downloading a file?
About the "Referrer"
The "Referrer" is the URL of the page that sent (referred) you to your present location on the Web. Your browser assigns this value automatically when you follow a link to any page on the Internet. On the Alias Web site, the Referrer is the page that contains the link to the downloadable file. The server requires this information in order to deliver the file to your computer. The Alias download server doesn't accept requests with Referrers that do not come from the www.alias.com domain, or if the Referrer does not contain any value at all. In both of these cases you will be redirected to this page.
The browser you use or the security restrictions on your system are often the cause of difficulty in downloading software. To help you access downloads of software programs on the www.alias com Web site, please read the Frequently Asked Questions below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I typed the download link in my browser. Why was I returned to this Web page?
A. If you try to access the download file in a manner that does not take you through the links on our Web site, you will not be able to complete the download. You must follow the download path on our Web pages so the browser can assign the www.alias.com URL to the Referrer every time you follow a link.
If you typed, or pasted, the URL of the download directly into your browser, rather than arriving at the page via an Alias Web link, the Referrer will be "empty" and will not be able to pass this value to the server. If the Referrer is empty, you will be redirected to this page.

Q. Can I control the Referrer option in my browser?
A. This depends on your browser, or the version number of your browser. Neither Internet Explorer nor Mozilla (Netscape) let you control this setting. In Opera, you can control it by going to the File (Windows®) or Edit (Mac®) menu, and than select Preferences->Privacy->Enable Referrer Logging. This box should be checked.

Q. I'm using a popular browser but the download link sends me back to the home page of the Alias Web site. Why?
A. Some browsers do not support the "Referrer", e.g., some Mozilla versions (e.g., 4.08), some AOL browsers, some Internet Explorer versions (e.g., 5.0), Mosaic, or any other browsers that are compatible with these do not carry referrer data at all. In this case, we suggest you use another browser that supports the Referrer, but before doing that, please also check the privacy setting you might have on your system on your own PC. (Please read "Security Measures" below.)

Q. Can I try to save the download in any other way instead of a direct click on the download link?
A. You can try to save the file with a "right-click" of your mouse and choose "Save As", although this might not work with all the browsers.

Q. The file that I download turns out to be the HTML code of the page that contains the link. What should I do?
A. This is a known problem for some versions of Internet Explorer. Read more here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281119

Security Measures

Q. My browser supports the "Referrer" and it's turned on, but neither a direct click nor a right-click "Save As" is offering the file for download. What should I do?
A. Check with your Network Administrator. Some proxy servers and firewalls strip out the referrer data before transmitting the request for data to your site. Check this setting with your Network Administrator and ask to be enabled for the www.alias.com domain.

Q. I'm not using a connection controlled by a Network Administrator and I still can't download the file. Why?
A. Check your PC's Security or Firewall application. Some Internet security or Personal firewall applications that users install on their personal computers create access issues by blocking referrer information settings. For this, you must add www.alias.com in the list of permitted domains and enable the Referrer option for it. Based on the application you are using, the location of these settings may vary.

Q.Why can't my Download Manager locate the downloadable file on your server?
A. Your Download Manager Application might strip out the referrer data and try to contact our download server with an empty Referrer. Try disabling your Download Manager.
